Taittinger Prélude Grands Crus

This champagne is made of 50% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil sur Oger (Côte des Blancs) and
50% Pinot Noir from Bouzy and Ambonnay (Montagne de Reims).

Prélude Champagne is made exclusively from grapes from Grand Cru fields and in a mix of several of the top vintages.
This is ripe now, but can easily be stored in the cellar for the next 6-8 years.

This Champagne is a blend of wines that originate exclusively from top Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.
At Taittinger, only first pressing is used for this beautiful champagne.
The champagne has a beautiful pale yellow color and the bubbles are fine and form a lasting and fine mousse.
The scent is fresh with mineral aromas which quickly develop into floral scents with hints of elderflower and spicy cinnamon.
The taste is first dominated by fresh citrus fruits, which must then give way to a long and more extensive full and soft taste, reminiscent of pickled white peaches in sugar syrup.
The finish is long and very expressive.
The champagne can be enjoyed now, but also has the potential for further aging.
Serve the wine at 8 - 10 C as an apéritif, or as an exciting companion to dishes with grilled fish or shellfish.

A little about the house Taittinger:
Champagne house Taittinger was founded in 1734 and is thus the 3rd oldest still existing Champagne house.
Back then, the house was started under the name Forneaux.
In 1820 the Forneaux family merged with Antoine Forest. The collaboration was quickly very successful under the name Champagne Forest et Forneaux.
It was during this period that the headquarters were moved from the "Hôtel le Vergeur" to the "Residence de Counts de Champagne". A building which the Taittinger family still owns and which gives its name to the house's top cuvée Champagne "Comtes de Champagne".
In 1932, Pierre Taittinger bought the Champagne house Forest et Fourneaux and their haunt "Residencen de Comtes de Champagne". Since there were no natural heirs to the Fornaux or Foreste family, Pierre chose in 1936 to rename the house to Taittinger, which is what it has been called ever since.

Comments from a tasting:

"The latest release of Taittinger's NV Brut Prélude Grands Crus is showing nicely, offering up aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, warm biscuits and marzipan. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and precise, with tangy acids and fine depth at the core, this is still a little reserved after what I suspect is quite a recent disgorgement, and it will merit a little patience"
