Charles Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2012
Charles Heidsieck Brut Vintage 2012
2012 was a great vintage year, and for Charles Heidsieck it is a year that is compared a lot with their 2008 vintage, which also was a fantastic year. This champagne clearly shows how good of a year it was. The color is a light golden and the bubbles are small and persistent. On the nose it has clear notes of the aging in wood, you can smell the toasted barrels, apricot and fresh almonds.
The immediate mouthfeel is generous, powerful and luxurious with flavors of currants, blackcurrants, blueberries and candied chestnuts. The long, majestic finish comes from the Pinot Noir, while the special complex personality of the champagne must be attributed to the noble Chardonnay crû. This is a great vintage and is ready to drink now, but you can also keep it for another 10 years.
Comments from a tasting:
"Very lemony (blossoms, zest and candied peel), with some red-berry and fresh tobacco-leaf notes. Impressive richness and concentration, the creaminess from lees beautifully matched by the fine mousse and mineral freshness. The latter also powers the structured and saline finish that makes a serious statement. A blend of 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay, disgorged in 2020."
95/100
